CEO of Isfahan Oil Refining Company

Implementation of EORC’s RHU project will resolve environmental concerns and energy imbalance

ًRHU will prevent the emission of 350 tons of sulfur per hour into the air of metropolitan cities and resolve environmental concerns, is of great importance in resolving fuel imbalance.

The CEO of Isfahan Oil Refining Company, while visiting the RHU and RFCC units, pointed out that the construction of the RHU environmental unit has been underway at the Isfahan Refinery since 2021 and said this project, which will prevent the emission of 350 tons of sulfur per hour into the air of metropolitan cities and resolve environmental concerns, is of great importance in resolving fuel imbalance.

Dr. Gholamreza Bagheri Dizaj stated the progress of the RHU project in the Isfahan refinery in the engineering, purchasing, and implementation sectors has been 67% so far. He said the entire effort is to have the unit’s initial launch at the beginning of 2026. In the first phase, this unit will reduce the sulfur content of 15 million tons of furnace oil produced by the refinery from 3 percent to the lowest standard level in the world. Therefore, this sweetened furnace oil will be usable in all power plants in the country without any pollution consequences, resulting in gas savings, and citizens will not face the problem of gas shortages in certain circumstances.

He said that the environmental approach of the first phase of the RHU project is over economic issues and said the company has prioritized the completion of the first phase of this project over its economic phase, and at the same time, it has taken into account the basic requirements of this project, which are air, water, and soil purification.

Bagheri Dizaj added that in the second phase of this project, sweetened furnace oil, while supplying food to neighboring and petrochemical industries, will be converted into lighter products such as gasoline and Euro 5 diesel so that furnace oil consumers can use clean diesel by developing new standards.

He said that the RHU unit of Isfahan Refinery ranks fifth among refineries in the world and second in the country in terms of capacity, capability, and technology, and acknowledged: The first RHU unit has been built in the Arak Oil Refinery, and the second one is being completed and built in the Isfahan Refinery. It’s hoped that the company will soon witness the operation of this unit in half the world so that the people of this land can benefit from the benefits and blessings of this project.

In another part of his speech regarding the water supply of the RHU project, the CEO of Isfahan Oil Refining Company emphasized that, considering the water shortage in Isfahan, the plan to transfer water from the Oman Sea to this company has been put on the agenda, and with the realization of this project, which is currently being completed, the company will no longer consume drinking water.
