CEO of Shazand Petrochemical Company:

The production of profitable grades to capture export markets is on Shazand Petrochemical’s agenda

The diversification of our export markets depends on regional conditions, and we try to secure these markets with grades that have higher profitability and profit margins.

Abbas Karimi, CEO of Shazand Petrochemical Company, on the sidelines of the 2025-2026 fiscal year general assembly of the company, in an interview with “Rahbord Energy” and in response to the reason for the remarkable records achieved, given that you took over the company’s management in turbulent conditions and were able to register records in operating income, operating profit, gross profit, and net profit, and in addition, considering the diversification of sustainable feedstock supply sources, you also carried out the overhaul of the complex after several years, said: Last year was a very special year for us, because we witnessed two wars, and the issue of the complex overhaul was carried out after many years. Another important issue in the sale of products was the change of gasoline grade from A80 to A92 (is exported to Afghanistan), which had provided a major part of our foreign currency income in previous years.

Karimi added: I must thank the company’s board of directors’ policy and the efforts of our hardworking colleagues on site, given the special conditions prevailing in the country, because we managed to have a very good diversity of feedstock and to procure low-cost feed-stock from Iraq so that we could increase the company’s profitability. Alongside this, our colleagues put in their efforts during the overhaul, and the efficiency of the units increased, which led to the company’s profitability.

The CEO of Shazand Petrochemical, regarding the impact of the overhaul and feed-stock diversification on production and the diversity of grades such as Tween80 in the ethoxylate unit, stated: “Our ethoxylate unit is a unit in which we work on a tolling basis, and some companies bring us the alcohol, and on a tolling basis and according to their orders, we produce the product they want. Last year, due to the existing maritime transportation problems, we did not receive enough alcohol to be able to produce according to the nominal capacity, but we increased the production capacity of the unit from 40,000 tons to 50,000 tons per year, which was a 25 percent growth, and with the provision of feedstock, we will achieve that increased production in this unit.”

Karimi, regarding the company’s strategy for diversifying export markets in the critical year 2025-2026, stated: “The diversification of our export markets depends on regional conditions, and we try to secure these markets with grades that have higher profitability and profit margins.”
