Director General of Environmental Protection of Isfahan Province

Isfahan Refinery is the Highest Quality refinery in the Country

In the near future, the issue of pollution in both the Isfahan refinery and Mobarakeh steel will be solved and they will be taken off the list of polluter industries

Rahbord Energy: Ahmadreza Lahijanzadeh referred to the efforts of Isfahan Refinery and said HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) training courses in industries are a good start and must be expanded to other industries in the province. He added that despite our strict measures for Isfahan Refinery, the refinery is considered to be the highest quality refinery in the country.

He said that some refineries are 10 years behind the Isfahan refinery and noted that transferring the experiences of HSE specialists can help increase the quality of other industries.

The Director General of Environmental Protection of Isfahan Province also said that in the near future, Mobarakeh Steel and Isfahan Refinery will be removed from the list of polluting industries.

He also highlighted that last year this issue was legalized in the budget law under the title of social responsibilities, and several MoUs were signed and approved by the planning council of the province last year.

He referred to the plan to move the Isfahan power plant outside the 50-kilometer radius of the city. According to him, the power plant produces NOX, and its NOX pollution load is high. He said the combined cycle power plant, if implemented at this stage, will reduce natural gas consumption by more than one million cubic meters. But according to him, in the second half of the year, there would be problems regarding energy consumption, and in the case of diesel consumption, more pollution would be produced.

The Director General of Environmental Protection of Isfahan Province said that over the past six months , numerous expert meetings have been held with the officials in the refinery and the details of the plan have been examined. Furthermore, a field visit was conducted by the deputy minister in this regard.

He stated that with the implementation of projects, sulfur will be removed from the pollution chain, and with the introduction of a new technology, 700 tons of sulfur produced per day will turn into a new product.

With regards to the creation of new petrochemicals, Lahijanzadeh announced that, due to environmental concerns, the development of petrochemicals in Isfahan province is not possible. He said Isfahan Refinery has purchased 40 hectares of land on the coast of Bandar Abbas for the development of its new petrochemicals, and the projects will be developed by the sea.

He also said that in the near future, the issue of pollution in both the Isfahan refinery and Mobarakeh steel will be solved and they will be taken off the list of polluter industries.

It is worth noting that, due to the effort of Isfahan Refinery, the first training course on environmental laws, regulations, and rules was held in Isfahan Refinery on June 21, with the presence of managers of environmental protection departments of all cities in Isfahan province, standard managers, HSE managers, and experts.
