Esfahan Refinery’s KHT Project was officially launched on Thursday, September 4, in the presence of Mohammad Sadeq Azimifar, CEO of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC), and Gholamreza Bagheri Dizaj, CEO of Esfahan Refinery. The KHT Quality Improvement Project is one of Esfahan Refinery’s important projects, which was launched with the aim of reducing sulfur in kerosene and developing the kerosene value chain in order to produce the base raw materials for detergents, fatty alcohol, and produce solvents with economic added value with a sulfur content of less than 10 ppm.
By the way, the official commissioning of the water transfer from the Sea of Oman to the refinery was also carried out on this day. With the 100 percent progress of the water transfer, the company’s need for urban water consumption in the province has been reduced to zero. At the end of the day’s program, the Deputy Minister of petroleum, members of parliament and a number of provincial officials visited the RHU unit and were informed of the latest achievements of this project.
Esfahan Refinery’s Green Step with the Unveiling and Commencement of the KHT Unit
The CEO of Esfahan Oil Refining Company (EORC) announced that the kerosene quality improvement project will upgrade this product from Euro 2 to Euro 5, saying: The current capacity of this unit is 19,000 barrels per day, which has the potential to increase capacity. Gholamreza Bagheri Dizaj stated that the next year, every three months, one to two projects in line with environmental goals, reducing resource consumption, and continuing production will be commissioned. Pointing out that the kerosene quality improvement project is one of the most important projects of the Esfahan Refinery, he said kerosene is one of the valuable products of this refinery that has various applications, including consumption as downstream feedstock and production of detergent raw materials. Also, by desulfurizing this product, solvents with export potential can be produced.
Bagheri Diraj also said that the “KHT” kerosene quality improvement project is one of the important projects of the Esfahan refinery, which was put into operation with the aim of producing valuable products and reducing sulfur in kerosene with a sulfur content of less than 10 ppm. He added that more than 80 percent of the equipment required for this project has been localized, and the successful implementation of these projects will not only improve the quality of oil products, but also be an important step in line with environmental protection. Bagheri Dizaj concluded by saying that this unit has the ability to increase capacity and by using it, a non-exportable product such as solvent 402 can be converted into an exportable product through the desulfurization process. This project also has a supplementary phase that will be implemented in the future.

The Deputy Minister of petroleum and CEO of the Iranian Petroleum Products Refining and Distribution Company also said that this environmental project, while improving the quality of petroleum products, ensures the sustainability of the refinery’s production.
