The unaudited results mark a dramatic improvement in Kharg Petrochemical’s financial performance, with higher gross margins, stronger operating cash flow and lower outstanding financial borrowings contributing to the gains. Yet the divergence between soaring profitability and declining production and sales raises questions about the underlying drivers of earnings growth and whether the trend can be sustained.
Net profit climbs nearly twelvefold
Kharg Petrochemical, traded under the ticker symbol SHAKHARK, recorded net profit of 8.743 trillion tomans during the spring-summer period of 2026, compared with approximately 732 billion tomans in the corresponding period of 2025.
The increase of 1,094% means that the company’s net profit was nearly 12 times its year-earlier level.
Notably, net profit for the six-month period also exceeded the company’s total earnings for the whole of the previous Iranian financial year, which amounted to approximately 5.005 trillion tomans. The latest six-month figure was around 75% higher than full-year net profit in the previous financial year.
Operating profit jumps 1,299%
Operating profit recorded an even sharper increase, rising from approximately 755 billion tomans during the spring-summer period of 2025 to more than 10.557 trillion tomans in the corresponding period of 2026.
This represents year-on-year growth of approximately 1,299%.
Gross profit also climbed substantially, increasing from around 2.168 trillion tomans to 12.186 trillion tomans, a rise of 462%.
The figures point to a significant improvement in the company’s profitability, with operating and gross profit growing considerably faster than revenue.
Operating revenue more than doubles
Kharg Petrochemical’s operating revenue reached approximately 21.298 trillion tomans during the spring-summer period of 2026, up 115% from 9.896 trillion tomans in the corresponding period of 2025.
Over the same period, the cost of operating revenue increased from approximately 7.728 trillion tomans to 9.112 trillion tomans, representing growth of around 18%.
The gap between revenue growth and the increase in operating costs was a major factor behind the sharp expansion in gross profit.
Gross profit margin rises above 57%
One of the most striking changes in Kharg Petrochemical’s financial performance was the improvement in its gross profit margin.
Based on the figures reported in the income statement, the company’s gross margin increased from approximately 22% during the spring-summer period of 2025 to more than 57% in the corresponding period of 2026.
That represents an improvement of roughly 35 percentage points, indicating that a significantly larger share of operating revenue was retained as gross profit.
However, the sustainability of this improvement will depend on several factors, including product prices, sales composition, feed-stock costs and production levels.
Operating cash flow turns positive
The company’s cash flow statement also points to a substantial improvement in liquidity generated from operations.
Net cash flow from operating activities, which stood at approximately negative 204 billion tomans during the spring-summer period of 2025, turned positive at around 7.325 trillion tomans in the corresponding period of 2026.
Kharg’s cash balance also rose to approximately 8.496 trillion tomans at the end of September 2026, nearly doubling from the end of the previous Iranian financial year.
Meanwhile, outstanding financial borrowings declined from approximately 4.902 trillion tomans at the end of 2025 to 2.868 trillion tomans by the end of September 2026, a reduction of around 41%.
Although these figures indicate an improvement in the company’s liquidity and financing position, a full assessment of its financial obligations would also require examining its current and non-current liabilities.
Profit surges despite falling production and sales
Perhaps the most significant aspect of Kharg Petrochemical’s performance during the spring-summer period of 2026 is the contrast between its financial results and its operating activity.
The company’s six-month operating report shows that production volume declined by approximately 29% year on year, while sales volumes fell by nearly 39%.
Despite the contraction in physical output and sales, operating revenue increased by 115% and net profit rose more than tenfold.
This divergence suggests that higher production volumes were not the primary driver of the company’s financial growth. Changes in product selling prices, exchange-rate movements, sales mix and the recognition of income and expenses may all have played a role.
The company’s management discussion and analysis report also identified foreign-exchange translation gains of approximately 1.486 trillion tomans during the spring-summer period of 2026, highlighting the potential contribution of currency-related gains to its financial performance.
What do the spring-summer results tell us about Kharg?
Khark Petrochemical’s unaudited financial statements paint a picture of a company that achieved a dramatic improvement in profitability, cash generation and gross margins during the spring-summer period of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier.
Net profit increased 1,094%, operating profit surged 1,299%, gross profit rose 462% and operating cash flow moved firmly into positive territory.
Yet the simultaneous decline in production and sales volumes makes it important to look beyond headline earnings growth.
The key question is whether the improvement reflects a sustainable strengthening of the company’s core operating performance or is partly driven by favorable pricing, exchange-rate effects and changes in its sales mix.
The company’s production and export performance, product prices and cost structure during the autumn-winter period of the Iranian calendar year will be crucial in determining whether the exceptional profitability reported in the spring-summer period of 2026 can be maintained.
