On the eve of the 29th of June, on the occasion of the 57th establishment anniversary of Kharg Petrochemical Company, released a video work, depicted part of the path of development and the lasting achievements of this complex. This short film, with a comprehensive look at the history and honors of Kharg Petrochemical, is a narrative of years of commitment and effective role-playing by this company in the path of elevating Iran’s petrochemical industry.
This media production, which has been prepared by the company’s Public Relations department, in addition to revisiting the course of technical and operational progress, honors the specialized human capital of this complex as the main pillars of Kharg Petrochemical’s successes.
The release of this film on the anniversary of this complex’s establishment is in a way a tribute to the efforts of past and present contributors of Kharg Petrochemical. In this video, while outlining a bright outlook for the future of this pioneering company, emphasis is placed on the continuation of the path of development and organizational discipline as the priorities ahead for the Kharg Petrochemical complex.
Kharg Petrochemical Company (public joint-stock) Its initial design has been started since June 29, 1967 with the goal of preventing the burning of gases, arose from oil extraction by the Iranian Offshore Oil Company (Kharg Island), and converting them into valuable products. It has been in operation since November 6, 1969.
Its initial design has been carried out since early 1965 by the American J.E. Pritchard company and implemented by the Japanese corporation, Chiyoda, through an equal (50-50) partnership between the National Petrochemical Company of Iran and the American company, Amoco, with a capital of 900 million IRR.
The expansion plan of the company began in 1994 to prevent the burning of light gases and convert them into valuable products, the project of building the Kharg methanol unit with a capital of 149.5 million USD and 460.5 billion IRR was successfully implemented in March 2000. The project was designed by the German company, Lurgi.
It is worth noting that on this fiscal year of 2025-2026, Kharg Petrochemical has produced 947,000 tons of products, which include methanol at 602,000 tons, butane at 103,000 tons, propane at 97,000 tons, sulfur at 81,000 tons, and pentane+ at 63,000 tons.
