Fertilizers Produced by Urmia Petrochemical are Suitable for Iran’s Neighboring Countries

Implementation of urea, ammonia, and PVC has considerable added value

Rahbord Energy: Akbar Esmaeeli, the CEO of Urmia  Petrochemical, has referred to planning and the implementation of large-scale projects and said the implementation of urea, ammonia, and PVC projects will prevent the sale of raw materials and bring considerable added value to west Azerbaijan province.

He made those comments in a meeting that was held to solve the developmental challenges of the Urmia  Petrochemical firm. The meeting was attended by the judicial chief of West Azerbaijan Province, the deputy head of business development and planning for the Persian Gulf Petrochemical Complementary Industries Investment and Development Company (PGPDIG), the provincial directors of road and urban development, and environmental officials. The meeting emphasized the importance of Urmia  Petrochemical Company in the fields of agriculture and food security. Akbar Esmaeeli said Urmia  Petrcohemical had the capacity to produce 40,000 tons of strategic fertilizers, including potassium sulfate, last year. He emphasized that it is now the biggest producer of fertilizers. Its products, he said, are bought by the Ministry of Agriculture Jahad and delivered to farmers with subsidies.

He said that the sulfuric acid production unit of Urmia  Petrochemical Company is one of the best such firms in the country and has a capacity to produce 50,000 tons of products annually. He noted that it can satisfy the needs of Iran and export its products to neighboring countries.

Esmaeeli further noted that the firm has the capacity to produce 40,000 tons of ammonium sulfate fertilizer annually and 4000 melamine crystals each year. He also emphasized that Urmia  Petrochemical Company is an environment-friendly firm, and its fertilizers are suitable for neighboring countries, including Iraq, Turkey, and Afghanistan.

Esmaeeli also referred to the implementation of environmental programs by Urmia  Petrochemical Company and the creation of green spaces and a storage pool for industrial waste with an investment of over 30 billion rials, which are set to be inaugurated in mid-June.

Esmaeeli also elaborated on the developmental projects of Urmia  Petrochemical Company and said for the first time, potassium sulfate was upgraded to four furnaces, which led to a 30% increase in production.

He also announced the establishment of a sulfur nitrogen fertilizer production unit and said the unit, which will be inaugurated in the near future, will produce 40,000 tons of sulfur nitrogen fertilizer. The products, he said, will be exported to Iraq and Afghanistan. He also referred to the sale of the products of the company and said the firm has registered a two-fold increase in 2022–2023 when compared to 2021–2022. He also said the company’s profits have increased two and a half times in the same period.

Esmaeeli also referred to the polyaluminum chloride project as one of the projects of the PGPDIG and said the product is used in water and waste purification processes.

He added that the project has now progressed 89% and said the project, which will be inaugurated in September, has a capacity to produce 23,000 tons of polyaluminum chloride.

He also referred to plans for urea and ammonia mega-projects in Urmia  Petrochemical and expressed hope that, with the support of provincial authorities, permission to provide feedstock and natural gas for the project would be granted soon.

 Esmaeeli also said the urea, ammonia, and PVC projects will prevent the sale of raw materials and bring considerable added value to the province.
