CEO of EORC:

Esfahan Refinery, the first industry to stop water withdrawal from the Zayandeh Rud

The refinery’s water withdrawal from the Zayandeh Rud has reached zero.

The CEO of Esfahan Refinery said: “The cessation of the refinery’s water withdrawal from the Zayandeh Rud was carried out with the operation of the water transfer project from the Oman Sea to Esfahan province, aiming to sustainably supply the water needed by the province’s major industries, especially under drought crisis conditions. “

Gholamreza Bagheri Dizaj, CEO of Esfahan Refinery, stated in an interview in Esfahan: The refinery’s water withdrawal from the Zayandeh Rud has reached zero.

He added: “The cessation of the refinery’s water withdrawal from the Zayandeh Rud was carried out with the operation of the water transfer project from the Oman Sea to Esfahan province, aiming to sustainably supply the water needed by the province’s major industries, especially under drought crisis conditions.  “

The CEO of Esfahan Refinery, stating that the water transfer plan from the Oman Sea to Esfahan was designed in two phases, said: “The first phase, including the transfer of 70 million cubic meters of water annually through pipelines 800 kilometers long, was put into operation in September this year and met the needs of the province’s major industries.  “

Bagheri Dizaj noted: “The second phase of this plan, with the completion of the connection of the transfer line to the Oman Sea, will increase the water supply capacity to 200 million cubic meters per year.  “

He stated: Esfahan Refinery is the first industry in the province to benefit from this plan by transferring water from the Jihadabad station to the refinery’s strategic reservoirs; these reservoirs include six large units, each with a capacity of 50,000 cubic meters, which had been previously constructed for this purpose.

He stated that given Esfahan’s unique geographical location and the region’s repeated droughts, the issue of supplying industrial water has been on the agenda for years, adding: the establishment of a water transfer company with major industries as shareholders has paved the way for utilizing sustainable resources such as water from the Oman Sea.

The CEO of Esfahan Refinery emphasized that this refinery has so far spent more than 8 trillion rials on the implementation of the sea water transfer project to Esfahan, and the expenses will continue until the completion of the second phase.

He stressed: the execution of this project has been carried out with environmental considerations, and the pipeline routes have been selected to minimize damage to the environment.

The national project of transferring water from the sea to Esfahan, aimed at the water security of the country’s vital industries, has now reached Esfahan Refinery after covering 800 kilometers of transfer route.
