EORC turns to the sea

A new chapter in the continuity of production and sustainability of EORC

Esfahan Refinery is the first industry in the province to use transfer water from the Oman sea plan.

The CEO of Esfahan Oil Refining Company (EORC) has announced the start of the trial operation of the project to transfer water from the Oman sea to Esfahan Province. Gholamreza Bagheri Dizaj said the project to transfer water from the Oman sea has been implemented. The move is aimed at sustainably providing the water needed by the province’s large industries, especially in the conditions of water shortage crisis. The project has now entered the operational and exploitation phase.

Referring to the special geographical location of Esfahan and the region’s frequent droughts, he added that the issue of industrial water supply has been on the agenda for years. The Water Transfer Company has been established with the participation of major industries in the province. The move has paved the the way to utilize sustainable resources, such as the water of the Sea of Oman.

The CEO of EORC said the project to transfer water from the sea is planned in two phases. In the first phase, it will branch off from the Vasco line and reach Esfahan with a length of 339 kilometers, and will extend to two northern and southern routes with lengths of 240 kilometers and 219 kilometers. The northern route will deliver the water project to the Esfahan refinery. Now, the trial operation of this phase has begun at the Esfahan refinery, and it is planned that about 700 thousand cubic meters of the refinery’s monthly needs will be met in this way. This amount will increase with the completion of current projects.

He further pointed out the serious participation and cooperation of the province’s large industries in implementing this project, adding that there is potential to supply the water needed by the province’s industries in this way.

The CEO of Esfahan Refinery emphasized on the continuity and sustainability of production in this company and noted that Esfahan Refinery is the first industry in the province to use this plan. He added that with the implementation of the water transfer plan from Oman sea, one of the biggest challenges of Esfahan industries, namely water shortage, will be resolved.

He said that the implementation of this project was carried out with environmental considerations in mind and noted for this project, which was formed with the aim of ensuring water security for the province’s important and vital industries, pumping stations have also been successfully launched and are being operated on a trial basis.

Bagheri Dizaj added that despite the strategic importance of seawater, maximum use of recycled water resources and wastewater treatment, as well as implementation of consumption saving programs, is being vigorously pursued. He said the use of seawater is a reliable and key source in the sustainability of industrial and refinery operations to cut dependence on urban water.

The CEO of EORC concluded by stating that in the second phase of the project, by implementing about 400 kilometers of piping and installing the required equipment, water will be supplied directly from the Sea of Oman. He added that the design stages of the second phase have been completed and its implementation will begin if financial resources are provided.
